THOUGHTS | #CRAFTED WORKSHOP
I have a studio. Yes, a studio. I hardly ever use it. In fact, I only use it about 3-4 times a year when I teach workshops. But guess what, I finally got to shoot in the studio this past Saturday for the #crafted workshop. Aaaaannnndddd…..needless to say, I loved it. I’ve been dying to do some creative shooting in the vast pockets of angular light of the studio for awhile, but I don’t always get the opportunity to shoot these types of sessions. So, Saturday was actually quite perfect in a multitude of ways. I yet again, got to teach another really great workshop to creatives eager and willing to learn from me. They asked fantastic questions and were open minded and enthusiastic about what I was teaching them. We connected, we oogled over light, and then I gave them a head first dive into some pretty dramatic light to use their new knowledge with some hands on experience of shooting the stunning subjects of Kaylyn and Broc. My hope for everyone who has attended my workshops is that they walk away with a renewed feeling of looking at light with a whole new perspective and interpret it in a way that speaks to them.
What compels and moves me to visually express thoughts floating around in my brain? What catches my eye and draws me in close? Light challenges me to look at new interpretations of highlights and shadows. It speaks to me and calls to me from the mundane to come, chase it. Chase the light. A path that sets my soul on fire and leaves me aching for more. The light calls my name. And I answer with mood, with drama, with lines and textures. Emotion. Connection. Movement. It speaks to me. I answer, and I chase the light.
My heart is full. Let’s do it again next November. xo, Em
